Becoming Catholic: The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) directs, supports, and sustains the Catechumenate, the way of faith and conversion by which adults (and children who have reached the age of reason) are initiated into the Catholic Church. The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults was restored in the Church in 1972 following the decrees of the Second Vatican Council as the normative way by which adults (and children who have reached the age of reason) are initiated into the Catholic Church.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops published the ritual texts for use in the United States of America. In the Archdiocese of Las Vegas, the OCIA is known as “Becoming Catholic.” This process for the Christian initiation of adults and children of catechetical age is a gradual process that takes place within the community of the faithful.

We welcome you to begin our “Becoming Catholic” program on Sunday, 15 September 2024. The catechetical instruction will be offered at Anderson Hall, in the Chancery of the Archdiocese of Las Vegas, directly behind the Guardian Angel Cathedral, each Sunday at 10:30 AM. We welcome you to assist at Mass at the Cathedral at 9:00 AM, followed by the catechesis at 10:30 AM, for this process of “Becoming Catholic” at the Guardian Angel Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Las Vegas.

Please take the 2024 – 2025 ‘Becoming Catholic’ schedule and complete the registration form attached. The registration fee of $50.00 helps to cover the cost of textbooks (the Holy Bible, Catechism of the Catholic Church, Outlines of the Catholic Faith, the Catholic Catechism for Adults) and additional handouts throughout the year.
